Hunting Cabin and more Trail Camera Pics!

I thought it would be fun to post a few pictures of what the inside of our cabin looks like as well as some more trail camera photos from the previous week!

Here's three more pictures of two bucks.  The first picture was actually from awhile ago but I just happened to come across it this weekend.

These bucks should be decent next year!  The bottom two pics are of the same 9 pt.

Fourth Night Out 9/26/2010

Today was another warm day in the high 60's and paired with the full moon I didn't know what to expect for the evening hunt.  I decided to try my bow stand on the alfalfa field once again.  The first action I had was a pair of coons that walked right under my stand.  About 20 mins later two deer were out on the field and one of them was that same little spike buck.  As the night grew darker not much had changed.  The deer really seemed to be content with waiting for night before feeding and I left the stand only to have seen those two deer.

Third Night Out 9/25/2010

Tonight looked to be another nice night for hunting but the only problem was I had a south wind which was completely wrong for my set up.  A little improvising was to be done and I borrowed a ground blind from my uncle Bruce.  After looking for a good place to set up I chose another corn field not to far from my previous nights hunt and set up the blind.

With temperatures in the 60's and a full moon, the deer seemed to be fine with waiting until dark to feed.  Tonight was the first night I was skunked in a couple years.  O well, I still have tomorrow night to hunt before heading back to college for the week.

Second Night Out 9/24/2010

Finally Friday has come!  Back to the same stand for another nice evening hunt.  Here are few pictures to better show the field edge where I'm set up on.

It didn't take too long for the deer to start moving.  Within 30 mins of being on the stand I had a fawn running around out in the field.  Not to long after, two more came from behind me in the woods and walked out right beneath me (pictured below).
Soon to follow those fawns was that same little spike buck I had seen last weekend.  I was able to take a picture of him this time.  He was only 15 yards away when I took the picture.  He followed the same path the fawns took and once on the Alfalfa field he made his way to the corn.
Unfortunately for me, there was nothing else within range.  I did see three smaller bucks appear on the middle of the field when the evening was getting pretty dark out.  I couldn't make out much for points but they weren't anything special.

I saw around 11 deer again with 3 fawns and 1 spike buck within bow range.

First Night Out 9/19/2010

View from my portable stand on the south field edge

Bow hunting opened last weekend for Minnesota and I managed to hit the stands for the Sunday evening hunt.  It was a nice night for hunting with a slight breeze and temperatures in the 50's - 60's.  I chose to hunt one of my portables along the south edge of our main field where most of the trail camera pictures have been taken.  There seems to be a nice funnel where the deer follow the switch grass from the south to the alfalfa field in the picture above.  When the deer do this, they often present a less then 30 yard shot with many walking past at 10 to 20 yards.  There is also corn planted further to the East which is sheltered by woods on two sides.

The first deer I saw appeared in the middle of the field around 5:45 P.M.  About an hour later more deer started appearing.  The doe in the picture above walked out about 25 yards in front of me before making her way further into the alfalfa.  Not to long after, a small spike buck came out right behind her (Picture below).

As the light began to fade there were 11-12 deer on and off the field.  The only buck I saw was that little spike buck.  Pictured below is one of the fawns that wandered within 25 yards of my stand.

I plan to get back on stand this Friday night and hope to hunt Saturday and Sunday evening as well.
